ASHWINI NAKIL

WILDLIFE RESEARCHER & EDITOR (JUNGLE CHIMES)

Ashwini is a dedicated wildlife professional with experience working alongside leading institutions such as the Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), and the Zoological Survey of India. Over the course of her career, she has contributed to diverse conservation projects focused on ecological research and biodiversity monitoring.

Her work specializes in camera trapping, conservation research in collaboration with local communities and NGOs, long-term ecological monitoring, and the use of molecular tools for wildlife research. She is also deeply committed to capacity building, helping strengthen conservation efforts through knowledge sharing and training initiatives.

Ashwini’s extensive field experience has taken her across some of India’s most ecologically significant landscapes, including Lahul & Spiti, Arunachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Pench Tiger Reserve, Darjeeling, and Sikkim. These diverse terrains have shaped her understanding of both Himalayan and central Indian ecosystems.

Beyond field research, Ashwini is driven by her passion for filmmaking. She transforms raw footage into compelling visual narratives through thoughtful editing and storytelling. Her fascination with cinematography sharpens her sensitivity to light, composition, and detail — enabling her to turn fleeting moments in the wild into powerful cinematic experiences.

Dyuti Karmakar

co-ordinator

With a blend of art, research and communication, Dyuti aims to educate the common masses about the environment. She believes, research should travel beyond peer-reviewed journals or elite magazines to the medias that are accessible to everyone. She has started a series named Dyuti’s Nature Comics, a comics journalism initiative, where her art simplifies the complex world of conservation for a diverse audience. She has won various poster making competitions and bagged prizes for creative writing while solidifying her foundation in Zoology. Her interest to know and deal with real world problems related to wildlife conservation, shapes her dreams, whereas creativity and knowledge pushes her forward. So far, her achievements are few, but her passion remains intact.

In her own words:

I want to acquire knowledge about wildlife conservation and spread awareness. Only a few percentage of people are privileged enough to learn about wildlife conservation. Once we educate more people about Mother Nature, the feeling of gratefulness for her resources shall be instilled in the minds of many.
